Terpenes are aromatic compounds that create the characteristic scent of many plants; like pine, lavender, and a fresh orange peel.
Terpenes are also responsible for the aroma and flavors of cannabis. They also play into the entourage effect by interacting with the cannabinoids.
Myrcene
The most prominent terpene contained in cannabis. Also found in thyme, mango, and lemongrass. Myrcene is believed to promote calming effects.
Limonene
Believed to provide anxiety and stress relief. It is also found in lemon rind, orange rind, and juniper!
Caryophyllene
Also found in black pepper, cloves, and cinnamon. Caryophyllene is unique because of its ability to bind to CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the endocannabinoid system.
a-Pinene
The most common terpene in the natural world. Also found in pine needles, rosemary, and basil. It may be useful for pain, inflammation, or anxiety.
