Why is the cannabis community all fired up lately? WE FINALLY HAVE THE ENERGY! CBN, the canna community’s newest ally, is helping us get some much needed rest. Here’s why:
- When combined with THC it has sedative effects.
- Spurs your appetite.
- It’s anti-inflammatory.
How do you find CBN?
Most people wonder why they can’t find CBN in flower. Well, the truth is you can, it just has to be aged. Like when fine wine ferments, as THC-A oxidizes CBN is harvested. This creates that relaxing feeling stemming from the entourage effect to help you go to and stay asleep. Exposing your cannabis flower to air or heat can help make the effects when smoking more sedative.
Many cannabis companies are now isolating CBN and putting it into edibles and tinctures for easier consumption. As the canna community grows we can expect to see this cannabinoid more readily available.
How does CBN and CBD differ?
CBD is the second most common cannabinoid used. Many grows can even increase the presence of CBD in their flower. CBN, however, is created by the breakdown of THC.
There is no way to produce a high-CBN strain of cannabis, and the amount depends on different factors, such as the levels of THC in the flowers and its exposure to elements such as light, heat, and time.
CBN borrows some of its properties from THC. For example, THC acts on the CB1 endocannabinoid receptors, which is what creates the high associated with cannabis. CBN also binds to the CB1 receptor, but at a much lower strength than THC. This technically makes it a psychoactive compound, and some sensitive people may notice some effects if they take CBN. However, CBD does not appear to attach to the CB1 receptors directly, and produces no effects of euphoria or other altered senses.
As a community we are always discovering new things about this beautiful plant. With over 150 cannabinoids, we are all working hard to keep striving for better. Better medicine, better education and better living. Ask your local Sacred Sun Farms team about updates within the canna community.
